Nigerian man sentenced for running drug ring in US

Houston — A Nigerian who authorities say ran one of the most expansive heroin smuggling networks ever uncovered involving Houston's main airport has been sentenced to nearly 25 years in prison. Koyode Lawrence was sentenced Tuesday in a Houston federal courtroom after having earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import a controlled substance. Also Read: 30 drug suspects arrested in Niger The case goes back to February 2001 when two men working for Lawrence were arrested at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. Authorities say the pair had swallowed packets of heroin being smuggled from Nigeria. Prosecutors say the 45-year-old Lawrence mainly recruited college students with dual U.S. and Nigerian citizenship for his smuggling ring. Keshi: There Isn’t Enough Preparation For Sudan

Out-of-Contract Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi has expressed concern with the current lack of leadership at the Nigeria Football Federation by saying there isn’t enough preparation for his team ahead of the Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan in October. The 52-year-old released a list of invited players for the game on Friday and also says he has already submitted his program for the games, but says he still isn’t sure what will happen with his proposal. “I have submitted my program to the Super Eagles secretary for onward submission to the General Secretary of the NFF to see if they will accept it so that we can start building towards the game against Sudan,” said Keshi. “It will be very good for us if we can start preparing immediately because I like working with the home-based players at least two weeks before the games. “But I don’t know what they want to do. Indian boy thrown under train for writing love letter to upper caste

PATNA, India – A teenage Indian boy was thrashed, paraded through the streets with his head shaved and then thrown under a train and killed for writing a love letter to a girl from a different caste, Indian police said on Thursday. Fifteen-year-old Manish Kumar was kidnapped by members of the rival caste on his way to school, had his head shaved and was thrown under a train as his mother begged for mercy, police in the impoverished eastern state of Bihar said. One man has so far been arrested and a policeman suspended. The victim’s mother Lalit Devi told police she had watched “helplessly” as the wheels of the train passed over her son. “The accused persons killed the boy for writing a love letter to the girl of the same village,” superintendent of police in Kaimur district, Rajesh Kumar, told Reuters by telephone.
